How is time and a half calculated?
Multiply your hourly rate by 1.5 for each overtime hour. At $20/hour, overtime pays $30/hour; 5 overtime hours add $150.
What is double time?
Twice your regular rate. California requires double time after 12 hours in a day and after 8 hours on the seventh consecutive day of a workweek.
Do paid holidays or sick days count toward overtime?
Usually not under federal law — only hours actually worked count toward the 40. Check your state and employer policy.
Are salaried employees entitled to overtime?
Only if they are non-exempt. Exempt status depends on salary level and job duties, not just being paid a salary.
